WALK #19

Surprise Destination: Jain Temple

CHW(Cuttack Heritage Walks) says Good Bye to 2020. A hazy cold morning witnessed the heritage enthusiasts gather near Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium. After covering our itinerary in the Barabati Fort Area, the members expressed their angst at not having a Site Museum at Barabati. They want the matter to be taken up with the Authorities on a priority basis. Visited the oldest Jain Temple of Cuttack located in the heart of Choudhury Bazar, marvelled at the brick coloured temple built in Odissan Architecture style. The temple has twenty two Jain statues dating back to the eleventh century and a lot of other interesting shrines and relics. The participants were briefed by Santosh Jain, Trustee, on the hoary past of the temple and it's sanctity. And the morning ended with a typical Rajasthani Breakfast (Samosa, Kachori and Jeelabi) and piping hot Kulaad Tea.
