Prof. Satyakam Mishra

Academician, Columnist, Social Activist. Professor Satyakam Mishra was brought up and educated at Cuttack. He passed the matriculation examination in 1970 from Ravenshaw Collegiate School. Then he went to Ravenshaw College for higher studies. He successfully completed graduation with Economics Honours in 1974 and post graduation in 1976. He started his professional career in a nationalised bank. But after serving there for two months he switched over to academics and started his long journey in the teaching profession in 1977. He had done his research work on fisheries in Odisha and successfully guided several research scholars. Under his able guidance 5 Scholars were awarded Ph.D in Economics and Business Management. At the later part of his service career he was entrusted with some administrative responsibilities such as Vice Principal of Ravenshaw College,Registrar of Ravenshaw University, Head of the department of Economics at GM College, Sambalpur, President, Board of Secondary Education, Director of SCERT and Teacher Education, Odisha and Director of Higher Education, Odisha. He retired from government service in 2013 and thereafter was chosen as a member and subsequently as Chairman of the Odisha Public Service Commission. Currently he keeps himself busy in social activities and writes columns in Odia dailies. He is also an active member of the Odisha Economic Association. He is acting as the Secretary of a charitable organisation, called AASTHA ALOK, which is providing free food to 250 people every morning at Sishu Bhawan,Cuttack. He is also the Chairman of the Ravenshaw University Development Trust. Apart from this he is also associated with several social, religious and cultural associations. He has been writing columns in leading Odia dailies on contemporary issues, particularly related to education policies and systems.
